Kaytlin Huizinga first fell in love with the fantasy genre in childhood while exploring the worlds of Lewis, Tolkien, and the Old English poets. She watched the Lord of the Rings movies when she was 13 years old, and the films inspired her to write a novel-length draft for an alternative ending sequel. She continued to write original poetry and stories until late high school, when the demands of high school sports and college prep became too overwhelming to devote additional time to writing fantasy. 

 

She attended Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio, and graduated in 2018 with a degree in environmental science. She married Tim, her college sweetheart, shortly after graduation, and began working at a national laboratory as a molecular biologist that same year. A few years later, the couple's first son, Parker, was born, and Kaytlin left the paid workforce to become a stay-at-home mom. Parker's kindness, curiosity, and knack for getting into sticky situations inspired Kaytlin to write her debut children's book, Sir Parker and the Quest for the Dreadful Dragon. The story was completed in 2021, but personal obstacles prevented her from being able to publish until the summer of 2023.

Kaytlin's goal for the Sir Parker series is to introduce early readers to fantasy fiction through stories that are both exciting and wholesome. Sir Parker provides a way for parents, teachers, and other fantasy-loving adults to introduce fantasy fiction to children without the violence, frightening monsters, and adult content often found in fantasy books and films. Kaytlin believes that the ideas that fill our minds fuel our actions, and there is no better time to learn to be a hero than when you are young!
